Our Photography Project 365 Coming soon
Hi everyone! So here we go…we’re almost at the end of the year 2009. Its been an interesting year to say the least, at least for me it has. We at Tini Images took a Gagillion pictures this year traveled a little bit to get some of them. But none of those pictures told our story. I think our pictures told some stories some events that occured during the year, what we(me) was thinking and even perhaps shared a little more insight than most cared to know. So we thought this coming year 2010 we’d attempt our own Photography Project 365, our first image for the new year though will be shot on Decemeber 31st 2009. Why you ask? So we have something to post on New Year’s Day 2010. These photos will be in addition to whatever else we post. As a matter of fact we’re thinking of making a especial spot on our site to address the Project 365. Hmmmmmm? That sounds like a grand idea to us. (Gee, I’m so glad we thought of that) Hmmm? I sound like Golem from The Lord of the Rings.
Anyways, we’re hoping this time next year we will be able to look back at the year, through our blog and see what we’ve been up too. I know this year we’re thinking about a new computer for our photography. Still not sure which route to go though. (Yeah I know everyone says MAC). We will post more info about our Photography Project 365 when its ready to go.
Until next time

And to all a Good Night
Hi everyone, people are always wondering how to take pictures of Christmas lights, and what better way to take them then at night. They don’t tend to look as pretty during the day. This particular photo was taken last year around the holidays at the Bull Run Festival of Lights. (Yes I know I already posted something about that) But I wanted to at least share with you all what I did here for this image. Since most of us don’t tool around with a tripod when we are on a family outing, especially when you have kids running around in the bitter cold and at night. I thought I’d provide what I did, not to say that what I did is ideal but it worked for me. With our trusty Nikon D300, we set our camera to shutter priority 1/60 of a second, held out breath and let the camera figure out the aperture. Which for his image ended up being f 5.6. Since the picture was being taken at night with no background to worry about a shallow depth of field was fine. I will ask you to note that my lens is also a vibration reduction lens so I was a little more confident that I’d be able to pull this shot off.

Bull Run Festival of Lights
Hi all and Merry Christmas Eve, (does anyone really say that?) Each year around the holidays in Centreville, VA the Rull Run Regional Park puts on the Bull Run Festival of Lights. Its a wonderful drive through the park inwhich guests can see 10′s of thousands of lights covering the whole spectrum of holiday cheer. At the end of the park is a small carnival, and yes with a ferris well as well. Please stop by and take a look it really is fun for the whole family, but remember to bring plenty of cash….real cash, the rides and the games and the food of course are not “cheap”. Yeah I know this is Christmas but hey even Santa has to pay the electric bill.
Until Nextime,

Yucca in the snow
After shoveling snow for a couple of hours, I decided it was time to take a break. During my shoveling adventures I saw a Yucca plant with a little bit of snow on it. For some reason I thought it was interesting since most people think of yucca as something you see in dry climates. Okay so actually I might be wrong on that one, the plant just looked interesting to me covered in snow. (May I’m the only one that thinks it looks cool) I took a couple of shots from different angles, even laid down in the snow that I’d been shoveling. I forgot that I didn’t have my coat on, just a pull over sweater thing I had picked up a number of years ago in upstate New York. High Falls Gorge I think. I ended up processing this as black and white using Silver Efex Pro by Nik Software. I’ll admit I think I use them for all my black and white processing. Really great stuff.

Mood Changer
Sometimes you have an image that when you first look at it, well ya don’t get to much out of it. Its an “okay” picture but it doesn’t speak to you. However, every once in awhile you come across an image with just a little bit of work, add some dramatics to it you have yourself a more interesting image. This first image is the “after” image, the whole idea was to make you wonder what the boy in the picture was thinking. I could probably tell you but that would give it away. The image below, well same kid same thoughts, but your probably thinking yeah okay “neat”, but that’s about it. Take a look at your image, and see its potential, it isn’t just an image, it can also be a statement or something perhaps even thought provoking.

Photography Quote of the Day (PQOTD)

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” - Aaron Siskind
Haunted Me
I’ve been sitting there thinking about the mistakes I’ve made and the lessons I still have not learned. Then I came across this tutorial that “spoke” to me. Its from one of the Final Destination movies, and well its sort of how I see things at the moment. A little dark I know, but if it wasn’t then it wouldn’t be unique to me.

Cruzan with Westcott
Hi everyone – Just recently a co-worker of mine at my day job, yes I have a day job. Anyways, his grandfather has a winery that is – well full of wine that he wants to sell. He asked if I could give him some pointers, but since I haven’t taken a picture of a bottle of wine I thought I would take a few shots this evening and see how it went. I mean its the logical thing to do before I’m actually trying to give out pointers. (Sheeze the nerve of some people.) I wanted to go simple with this as I’m a pretty simple guy. Some time ago I purchased the uLite Green Screen lighting kit from Westcott to do some green screen stuff at the house. It was really to goof around with. I decided I would use the lights that came with the kit and let the dice roll. I borrowed some maroon fabric, an antique table. (Which you can’t even see in the photo) I set each light to either side of the bottle of rum, I didn’t have a bottle of wine handy. I placed the 500 watt lights about 2 or 3 feet from the bottle and had the lights at the same height as the table. I first wanted to try things out with just one light source. I turned on only the light to my right, and let’er rip. For this I was using a Nikon D300 and a 18-200mm 3.5 lens. This shot was taken at shutter speed 1/160 at F 5

Single light
This next picture was taken with two lights. I just turned on the second light to my left, adjusted my camera’s setting…oh and for the record I was shooting manual. I did a few test shots until I found a happy place.
This shot was taken at 1/160 at F5.3, not to much in the way of changing settings. I’m not sure which picture I like the most. I suppose I’ll see if my daytime job co-worker likes either one.

Two Lights
